IOS for seven drum stimuli

You can hear them here. What's IOI?

Here are plots that describe what the seven stimuli files used in the listening test look like. The first four panels show the IOIs in sequence for recordings of professional percussionists that performed the same task under different circumstances. The seqences are labelled A1-A4 because of the task being single strokes with interleaved accents every fourth note.

Two fully synthesised sequences, as well as a sequence with irregular accents, was also included in the test.

Below the patterns you'll find links to the soundfiles with the dynamic information removed. Listen to the soundfiles A-G and try to match the sound sequences with the correct pattern. Remember that an increase in IOI means a longer interval between two strokes.

A1: Accents every fourth note played by player S1 at pp, 160 beats per minute.

A2: Accents every fourth note played by player S3 at pp, 160 beats per minute.

A3: Accents every fourth note played by player S3 at pp, 200 beats per minute.

A4: Accents every fourth note played by player S2 at mf, 160 beats per minute.

The two next panels, W and I, show two completely synthesised sequences used in the test. Sequence W was synthesised with every third interval prolonged, while sequence I hav no variations in timing at all (i.e. it is isocronous).

W: Synthesised sequence with IOIs of 375, 375 and 400 ms repeated.

I: Synthesised isocronous sequence with IOIs of 375 ms repeated.

The last sequence is a recording of one of the players performing an excerpt from "Rite of spring" by Strawinsky with irregular accents.

S: Irregular accents performed by player S2 at ff and 200 beats per minute.

Here below are the same sequences where the dynamic information from the original recording has been removed. Listen to the soundfiles A-G and try to match the sound sequences with the correct pattern. Remember that an increase in IOI means a longer interval between two strokes.
